Piedmont Splits with Central Fellowship

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars picked up a much-needed 35-30 win Tuesday on the road in Macon against Central Fellowship.

Hailey Burnham scored 11 points while Rachel Maletz added 10. Piedmont led by three points at halftime and one after the third quarter in a contest which was close throughout.

Carley Cain added five points for the Lady Cougars while Heather Tyler scored four and Lanie King finished with two. Piedmont outscored Central Fellowship 16-12 in the game’s final eight minutes.

The Piedmont boys fell 56-47 Tuesday night despite 20 points from Bobby Mitchell. Davis Kimball and Jakey Dunagan added eight points each.

Central Fellowship jumped out to an early lead, building an 11-point cushion after the first quarter, and was able to hold off the Cougars the rest of the way.

Prior to Tuesday the Piedmont Academy basketball teams split with Brentwood Saturday at home.

The boys earned a key 49-46 win as Mitchell scored 15 points and Lawson and Dunagan both added 10.
“It was probably the biggest win of the year for us,” Daher said. “It was a big win for the program. We executed our offense and played our tails off on defense.”
Daher said Tyler Cullum helped set the tone defensively forcing several Brentwood turnovers.

“He was the spark off the bench we had been missing,” Daher said.
Cullum also scored five points in Saturday’s win as did Alex Hall. Justin Wilson and Kimball both added two points.
The Piedmont Lady Cougars dropped a close 38-32 contest to Brentwood despite 12 points from both Burnham and Maletz. King added four points while Cain scored two.

Jordana Pope and Tyler both finished with one point Saturday.
Friday’s match-up with long-time rival Gatewood did not go in Piedmont’s favor as the Lady Cougars fell 57-27 and the boys dropped a 55-14 contest.

Maletz led the Piedmont girls with 11 points, while Zach Beggs paced the boys with six points.
