Cougars Surprisingly Still in Basketball Playoffs
The Piedmont Academy boys basketball team learned Tuesday it is still alive in the postseason and is now one win from the Final Four.
Coach Josh Daher said First Presbyterian Christian Academy, the team which defeated the Cougars in the opening round of the GISA Class AA tournament, was ruled to have used an ineligible player. That mean the team’s victories in the first two rounds have been forfeited.
Piedmont Academy and Furtah Prep — the two opponents who fell to FPCA — will now meet Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in a contest played at John Milledge Academy. The winner will advance to the Final Four, which begins Thursday at Georgia College & State University.
Daher said one of FPCA’s players was ruled ineligibe because of his age. The Cougars lost to FPCA 61-24 back on Feb. 17.
“I’ve never been involved in anything quite like this,” the Cougar coach said.
Piedmont will practice at 7 a.m. Wednesday and then play the game later that night.
