Cougars Fall in ‘Extra’ Game

The Piedmont Academy boys basketball team made a run at the Final Four after being given a new life Tuesday but ended up a little short against Furtah Prep.

Leading 36-35 after the third quarter, the Cougars were outscored 22-3 in the final eight minutes to fall 57-39. Bobby Mitchell paced Piedmont, who had to scramble to prepare to return to the court, with 10 points. Jakey Dunagan added eight and Justin Wilson finished with six.

Both Piedmont and Furtah had been defeated in the playoffs by First Presbyterian Christian Academy, but it was later discovered the Highlanders had used an ineligible player. Georgia Independent Schools Association officials then dictated Piedmont and Furtah would meet with the winner advancing to the Final Four.

Peter Lawson, Dylan Collins and Alex Hall all added four points Wednesday night in a game played at John Milledge Academy. Davis Kimball added two points and Tyler Cullum scored a free throw.

The Cougars took early control of the game leading 14-7 after the first quarter and 22-18 at halftime.

Furtah’s Demetrus Dorsey led all scorers with 25.
