Piedmont Tennis Gears Up for New Season

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars will look to continue the improvement they showed on the tennis court a year ago as the 2011 season approaches.

Coach Robert McMichael said earlier this week the new season begins March 1 against Brentwood in a home match at 4 p.m. Piedmont’s home matches will be played at Turtle Cove.

“Our region should be tough again,” McMichael said. “Our girls who are returning have some varsity experience so hopefully that will help us. We are basically teaching them the game of tennis so they will be able to continue playing even after high school.”
Returning team members include Katie Dimsdale, Clare Maloney, Briana Bailey and Brittany Germany. Newcomers include Shianne Witcher, Savannah Holifield and Nina Blackshear.

“They work hard and put a lot of effort into getting better at each practice,” McMichael said.

Competing with Piedmont in Region 1-AA will be Briarwood, Brentwood, Central Fellowship, Covenant, Gatewood and Monsignor Donovan.

Following the opening match against Brentwood, the Lady Cougars will travel to Macon on March 10 to face Central Fellowship.
