The leak was found underground in front of the Big Chic restaurant after numerous attempts to find the source of the leak.

The cause was a very old lead pipe service line that had been abandoned, said Bob Schwartz, city manager. It leaked very slowly, but constantly, much to the chagrin of city workers trying to find the problem, and to residents who could see the wasted water as it ran down the street.
