Canes Get a Win and Suffer a Loss

After dropping their second game of the season in a close 8-7 decision to GMC on the road, the ‘Canes returned the favor at home last Thursday by defeating the Bulldogs 12-1 in a five inning game in which the mercy rule went into effect.
Brady McMichael was on the mound, and struck out 10 batters and only gave up three hits in five innings.
Once again A.J. Thomas led the attack at the plate by going two-for-three including a triple, followed by two hits by McMichael, a double by Sadarius Rooks, and a three-run home run by Kevin Camp that broke the game open.
Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “This game was more indicative of how we’re going to play this year, than the Baldwin game.”
The ’Canes were defeated 14-8 in that game when two young pitchers, Shane Pullum and Dustin Womack, both saw their first varsity action on the mound versus Baldwin last Friday.

Coach Jenkins said, “They broke the game open with several infield singles, so Dustin took the loss, but he threw better than the stats indicated. We warned the team before the game that this could be a letdown game after we had defeated GMC 12-1.
“I think we learned from this game and will be better because of it. From the first week our defense has improved, but still needs work to get to where we need to be and where we typically are. Our biggest problem in this game was some awful base running, and the GMC game was more indicative of how we’re going to play this year.”
The ‘Canes were scheduled for their first region play this past Tuesday when they traveled to Morgan County, who just moved down to AA from AAA, however the results were too late to report in this edition.
Tomorrow, Friday, March 11, the team is scheduled to resume action at home when they play Jackson at 5:30 p.m.
After that they are scheduled to travel to Pike County for their second region game next Tuesday, March 15.
