Baseball Canes Win Two Straight

After going on a four-game losing skid, the ‘Canes rebounded last Friday at home when they shut out Northeast Macon 10-0.
Kevin Camp was on the mound for his best effort of the year as he pitched a five-inning no-hitter, and picked up the team’s first region win.
Prior to that game, on Thursday, March 17, the ‘Canes avenged themselves on the road by defeating Jackson 10-5, after having suffered a 15-2 loss at the hands of Jackson earlier in the season. Clay Hardy threw a complete game and only gave up four hits against a AAA team that was undefeated at the time.
Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “That win was pretty huge. Clay had his best outing so far this year and kept them off balance. Jonathan Bell and Dee Chapman led the hitting, and Chris Sands made two outstanding plays in the outfield.”

With a current overall record of 4-6, and 1-2 in region play, the ‘Canes have dug themselves into a sixth place tie with Crawford in the region, however their two region losses came at the hands of first and second place Pike and Morgan Counties, both of which are undefeated in region play.
Coach Jenkins said, “We opened up with the two best teams in the region. Pike is as good a team as any in the state. We competed with both of them, and we hope that will set the tone for the season.”
The team was scheduled to travel to Macon for a game against winless Southwest Tuesday, but that game was postponed and will be rescheduled sometime in April.
Other upcoming action includes a non-region game in Baldwin scheduled for yesterday, too late to report in this edition.
Also, the game scheduled for tomorrow, March 25 against rival Putnam, originally scheduled for 5 p.m., has been changed to 6 p.m., and a JV game will precede the varsity game at 4 p.m.
The team is also scheduled to be on the road versus Greene on Monday, March 28, and at home versus Crawford County Wednesday, March 30 at 5 p.m.
