Piedmont Tennis Falls to Tough Gatewood

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars were swept by Gatewood in tennis action last week.

Piedmont coach Robert McMichael said the Lady Gators were a strong foe.

“Gatewood is a good team,” McMichael said. “They might not be quite as strong as Monsignor Donovan and Loganville Christian, but their No. 1 singles player certainly had strong skills.”

Brittany Germany fell 8-1 at No. 1 singles as did Katie Dimsdale at No. 2 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Brianna Bailey and Savannah Holifield dropped an 8-6 match in what was the most competitive action of the day.

Britton Bailey fell 8-4 in boys singles action.
Piedmont’s scheduled match against Loganville Christian Monday was not played since LCA had to make up a region contest, McMichael said. Tuesday’s scheduled match with Nathanael Greene was also not played since NGA just has one girl player and Piedmont has just one boy player.

“We just didn’t feel it was worth it for just a couple of matches,” McMichael said.

Piedmont will close out the regular season today, March 31 against Brentwood on the road before going on spring break. The Region 1-AA tournament is scheduled for April 11-12 in Sandersville.
