Kiwanis Talent, Art Show Winners Are Named

The Bucketheads 3.0 took home the top honor at the 2011 Kiwanis Talent Show last Tuesday.
The Bucketheads included Matthew Benton, Margaret Bermudez, Kristin Reynolds, Wyatt Wilkins, and Phillips Workman. They played percussion which included a PVC pipe instrument, and were accompanied by a drum set.
Winners in Class A (the Bucketheads), which includes grades 9-12 and will advance to the State Competition for a chance to win up to $3,500 in scholarships. Following the Bucketheads was Qunitara Standifer who did a Liturgical dance to He Wants it All, and the colorguard group Three’s Company, which included Hailey Brown, Megan Fontaine and Erika Hunter.
In the Class B division, grades six through eight, a Brass Quartet which included Taylor Edwards, Clay Evans, Austin Norwood, and Luis Perez took first with their performance of Trumpet Voluntary. Anna Parker sang Free to be Me, and took second; with Gage Osborn taking third for his rendition of Only Exception.

In the kindergarten through fifth grades division, Ella Mercer took home the first place trophy. She played the piano and sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Gracie Mae Kendall took second. She sang Swept Me Away while her father, Paul Kendall accompanied her on the guitar. A dance duo of Tyler Phillips and Jonessia Webb took third by dancing a number to Whip My Hair.
The talent in Jasper County abounded at this 31st annual talent show with over 30 acts performing throughout the night. Stone Workman was the emcee for the event and Dr. John Brown, president of the Monticello Kiwanis Club gave the welcome and aided in the awards presentations.
Stage hands included Jehan El-Jourbagy, Morad El-Jourbagy, and Rusty Bullard. These Kiwanians aided in the smooth shifts between performances. Les Steele and Lisa Kelly assisted with the music and Kasey Reid also was on hand to assist them.
The Piedmont Boys Quartet provided their rendition of Grumble Too Much, and did an outstanding job of entertaining a packed Jasper County High School Auditorium. They provided entertainment while the judges tabulated scores for Class C.
Dr. Brown and Mr. Workman both noted that it takes a brave and talented person to get up in front of a large group of people to perform. They said that all of the participants were winners for having this courage.
In the art portion of the show, students submitted their artistic endeavors to be judged and all of those submissions were on display for the talent show attendees.
The winners of the art portion of the contest along with a full list of participants included Matthew “Skippy” Rogers with his piece entitled Rdj. Second place went to Dwayne Miller with Rainy Day, Dream Away. Justin Bradford took third with his drawing entitled Twisted Cave, and Tyler Hann and Bridgett Wells both received an honorable mention award.
Participants in the Kiwanis Talent Show included: Class C—Avery Jacobs, Drew Schilling, and Emma Jacobs on piano; Gavin Jacobs, Jessica Moore, Jaxon Purcell, Emma Jacobs and Shelby Word, singing; and Brianna Ledford tap dancing and piano.
Class B participants included Madison Fish and Hannah Wood, singing; the “Unicanes” Autumn Dennan, Hannah Schoenhoff, Ali Walker, and Lindsey Wallace, on unicycles; Levi Ford, on piano; Jacob Bell and Alex Mendoza, instrumental duet; and Cain Gonzales, Camryn Gentry and Damon Green, dancing and singing.
Class A participants include Olivia Aldridge, and Cooper Sanvidge, singing and guitar; Amy Anuszczyk, Angelia Brown, Bethany Cargile Amanda Jackson, and Blake Womack, singing; Alex Aultman, performing original music on MacBook Pro and guitar; and Savannah McGinnis, playing piano and singing.
Other students who entered their art into the judging included Priscilla Allison, Jasmine Ammons, Katherine Andrews, Jamie Arnold, Lauren Atkinson, Quanesha Bennett, Courtney Boykin, Brenda Cruz, Tony Keith Dalton, Lexie Fields, Heather Griffin, Savannah Holcombe, Amber Jenkins, Lauren Johnson, Livia Johnston, Mary Kelly, Courtney King, Trevor Lynwood, Haley Manders, Jenifer Martinez, Kahla Mason, Amber Matkovich, Nathan Michael, Shay Middlebrooks, Bradley Mitchell, Aaron Murphy, and Jonathan Norris.
Also, Stephanie Ortiz, Samantha Parden, Autumn Pope, Holly Potet, Riley Powell, SaDarius Rooks, Brittany Sanders, Lily Shaw, Taylor Sims, Candice Smith, Lauri Stewart, DeAndre Stockes, Richie Steele, Amber Thomas, Shakenia Thurmond, Rasheed Tripp, Amanda Wall, Alexis Willimas, Brittany Westbrooks, and Adam Wilcox.
Proceeds from the night will be donated to the local school’s music programs.
