Piedmont Baseball Earns Big Region Win

Piedmont Academy’s baseball team remained in the postseason chase with a 3-0 win against Central Fellowship Tuesday afternoon.
Cole Hamilton earned the win and the praise of coach Danny Camp for his effort on the pitcher’s mound. Hamilton scattered three hits and recorded nine strikeouts.

“He pitched a gem,” Camp said. “He got stronger as the game went on.” Hamilton worked out of jams in the second and third innings. By the time the sixth inning arrived, Central Fellowship went down in order for its final six at bats.

The win Tuesday improved the Cougars to 10-9 overall and 5-5 in region play. Piedmont has four region games remaining.
“Right now we are definitely still alive for fourth place and could even finish in third,” Camp said.

Prior to Tuesday, Piedmont defeated Nathanael Greene 11-0 Saturday in a non-region contest. Jakey Dunagan was the winning pitcher and was also 2-for-2 at the plate. Zach Beggs and Josh Brennan were both 2-for-3 with three RBI each.

The Cougars fell to Brentwood 11-0 last Friday. The Eagles led the Region 1-AA standings.

”We just couldn’t get anything going,” Camp said. “We didn’t throw enough strikes or play defense the way we are capable of. We hit some pitches hard but didn’t have anything to show for it.”
Piedmont will face Windsor Friday on the road at 4:30 p.m. before hosting Briarwood in a makeup game Monday at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars will then travel to Briarwood Tuesday for another 4:30 p.m. region contest.
