Shirley Cunard Davis

Shirley Cunard Davis, 83, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.

Mrs. Davis was a lifelong resident of Jasper County, where she was a member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church, and held the distinction of being the longest active member.

She was a beloved member of the community, serving through her vocation in medical records at Jasper Memorial Hospital and as office manager at the Jasper County Health Department, where she worked for 35 years. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, and doing cross stitch needlework.

Her parents were the late Elwood Elbert Cunard and Evelyn “Evie” Bullard Malone Cunard. Her husband, Ray Davis, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Cunard Polk and Elise Cunard West.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Brown, and Lisa and Bobby Batchelor, all of Monticello, and Donna and Tommy Mitchem of Eatonton; grandchildren, Will Perry, Ben Perry, Angela Barrett, Jody Mitchem, Wes Mitchem, Robbie Batchelor, and Paul Batchelor; step-grandchildren, Anthony Brown and Tonia Brown; great-grandchildren, Marie Perry, Smith Perry, Randall Barrett, Ryan Barrett, Avery Mitchem, Logan Mitchem, Connor Mitchem, Blakley Mitchem, and Jocelyn Mitchem; and step-great grandchildren, Kayla Brown, and Camden Brown.

She is also survived by her brothers, Malone Cunard of Monticello, Elbert Cunard of Gray, and Jerry Cunard of North Carolina.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 2, at Monticello First United Methodist Church, with interment in West View Cemetery. Dr. John Brown officiated.

Pallbearers were Will Perry, Ben Perry, Paul Batchelor, Robbie Batchelor, Wes Mitchem, Anthony Brown, Randall Barrett, and Ryan Barrett.

Jordan Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements.
