Band Concert, Historical Presentation Highlight Weekend

The Monticello Community Band will announce the recipients of the 2011 Lifelong Music Scholarship at Friday’s Spring History Concert.
Two graduating seniors will be specially recognized for winning the scholarships during the 7 p.m. concert at the Monticello Baptist Church.
In addition, all mothers in attendance will be recognized for Mother’s Day and several local churches will be mentioned for history pertaining to several of the featured musical works. The concert will feature two hymns for band and choir, a men’s quartet, spirituals and pieces incorporating the church organ and hand bells.
Limited discount tickets are on sale at the Bank of Monticello, McIntosh State Bank and the Monticello/Jasper County Chamber of Commerce for $5/person and $15/family until noon on Friday. Tickets at the door are $10/person. All proceeds support music scholarships, purchasing band and choir music and community concerts.

The band relies on the support of concert patrons and Friends of the Band, including Independence Day Concert sponsor Georgia Representative Susan Holmes in honor of Stone Workman’s crash cymbals and An American Christmas Concert Sponsor Georgia Council for the Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Historical Foundaiton meeting on Saturday will feature election of officers and other activities beginning at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m., Jasper County native Nathan Jordan will make a presentation detailing his family’s military service through seven generations. He will display numerous artifacts as well. In addition, several Jasper County families will be honored.
