‘Canes Complete Season With a Split

SENIOR DIAMOND CANES PLAY LAST GAME

The Diamond ‘Canes were playing for pride the last two games of the season, after being eliminated from post season play. They did lose one to region rival Lamar, but showed what they are capable of by defeating Newton County, a AAAAA school, 12-11.

The team finished the season with an overall record of 11-14 and a region record of 6-10 putting them in sixth place in the nine team region 4-AA.

The team is losing four seniors, but the good news is that they will be returning eight starters.

Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “It was a disappointing season, but when you have an inexperienced pitching staff, it can be hit or miss all season. This was the first time since 2006 where we had nothing to play for but pride the last week of the season.

“That paid off for us when we defeated a 5A team who tied for fourth place in their region. It showed the character of the team, for which I am extremely proud.”

Seniors who were recognized for their contributions were (left to right) SaDarius Rooks, Nick Johnston, Chris Sands and Travis Hulsey.
