Robert Lee Smith
Funeral services for Robert Lee Smith, who died May 9, 2011, were held Saturday, May 14, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Rev. Donna Marie Calix officiated, burial was in South View Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born February 2, 1943, in Jasper County, the son of the late Percy Smith, Sr., and the late Alberta Presley Smith.
After school, Mr. Smith worked with his father at the Monticello Bobbin Company. Later he was employed at Hercules Company in Covington where he retired. Coming out of retirement, he obtained employment with the state forestry. He monitored lakes and forests; and since hunting and fishing were his hobbies, he probably knew every dirt road in Jasper County. He had to retire because of illness. He had lived at the Eatonton Health Care Center in Eatonton for the last two years.
He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church.
A sister, Sarah Banks Standifer, and two brothers, Percy Smith II and Frederick Smith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Marvin Glover and Bruce Adam Glover, both of Monticello, a beloved friend, Rosemary Mark Tinsley, a grandson, Bruce Adam Glover, Jr., and a number of other relatives and in-laws.
Mr. Smith served as grandfather to Brittany, Marion, Nasa, Qualanda, Annette, Yasheka and Katronia.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
