Coach Pleased with Spring Practice

The ’Canes capped off their two weeks of spring football practice last Friday evening with a Purple and White Game at Rose Bowl field, after which Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts said he was well pleased with his team’s performance.

The team didn’t seem to have much difficulty moving the football last year, but did give up a lot of points on defense, a point which Coach Roberts and his staff concentrated on in the spring season. Coach Roberts said, “We ran some offense but it was not a priority.

We concentrated on defense and I think we instilled some aggressiveness into their heads because they ran to the ball, made some hard hits and caused some turnovers.

“Our team is much stronger physically than we were last year, and we benefited from some new players. Oscar Sandoval was a bright spot, as were upcoming eighth graders Quincy Standifer and Lane Thomas.

“I was pleased with the overall effort, everyone played hard and with enthusiasm, and we had some excitement which was missing from last season.”

The ‘Canes will get their fall season underway on August 26 at home versus Monroe Area.
