Thefts Are Prevalent in County
According to information furnished by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) several burglaries and thefts were reported for the period of May 25 through May 28. Anyone with any information on the criminal activity listed below is encouraged to contact the JCSO at 706-468-4912 or at the anonymous tips line at 706-468-tips:
•On May 28 a resident on Turtle Cove Trailway reported the theft of a pressure washer, and echo blower, a Ryobi weed eater and an electric generator.
•On May 28 a resident on Lakeshore Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a Panasonic TV, an IPOD and a Honda generator.
•On May 27 a resident on Herring Gull Court in Alcovy Shores reported a burglary with no listing of items taken.
•On May 26 a resident on Deep Water Lane in South Jasper County reported the theft of two flat screen TV’s.
•On May 25 Frank’s Restaurant on Hwy. 212 west reported the theft of more than $1,000 cash.
Also, during the period of May 24 through 31, the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Eddie James Horton, 43, Shady Dale—child support.
•Donald Hill, 44, Monticello—probation violation and Jasper County Superior Court bench warrant.
•Kyle Conrad Zagwayn, 30, Newborn—parole violation.
•Richard Alan Cvengros, 25, Monticello—theft by receiving stolen property, giving false information to law enforcement officer, failure to maintain lane, duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of accident, license violation, driving while license suspended or revoked, and possession of vehicle where identification has been altered.
•Jonas Nigel Smith, 29, Shady Dale—probation violation, possession and use of drug related objects, possession of marijuana, and possession/manufacture/distribute a controlled substance.
•Elinor Lindsey Strouth, 34, Shady Dale—deposit account fraud (three counts).
•Robert Pierce Standifer, 43, Griffin—probation violation.
•James Travis Moon, 19, McDonough—failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
•Marrisa Cole Taylor, 17, Monticello—possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor.
•Carolyn Denise Mashburn, 42, Newborn—battery.
•Jimmy Lee Jackson, 47, Monticello—parole violation.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 211 calls for service including 55 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 20 alarm, 13 subject needs officer, 10 each accident and mechanical breakdown, nine attempt to serve warrant, and six each assist motorist, speeding auto and juvenile complaint.
Also, five each burglary, theft by taking, pickup prisoner, trouble unknown, road hazard and threatening/harassing calls, four abandoned vehicle, three each prowler report, livestock on road, welfare check, music/noise complaint, argument, and VGCSA; two each fight, escort or convoy, special detail four wheeler, vandalism of property, checking location and 911 hang up; one each dog disturbance, road blocked, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, dead deer on road, fall, miscellaneous fire, missing person, and sick.
Also during this same period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:
•Kenneth Anthony Thurman, 48, Monticello—criminal trespass and pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
•Lasidra Monae Sands, 33, Monticello—hold for warrant in Morgan County.
During this period officers with the MPD responded to 84 calls for service including 30 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 11 alarm, five subject needs officer, four music/noise complaint, three each escort or convoy, assist motorist and abandoned vehicle.
Also, two each speeding auto, trouble unknown and persons refuse to leave, one each fight, domestic, road blocked, livestock on road intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, special detail, theft by taking, laceration, dead deer on road, crowd disbursement, property found, vandalism of property, argument, stroke and 911 hang up.
In addition, during this period the Department of Natural Resources made the following arrests:
•Jessica Hope Sheffield, 25, Covington—reckless operation of a boat and boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
•Max Lynn Lowry, Jr., 27, Guyton—reckless operation of a boat and boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
•Jonathan Lee Sikes, 29, Sharpsburg—reckless operation of a boat and boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
•Trevor Houston Whiteman, 22, Suwannee—boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 100 feet violation.
