Megan Studdard Plays Ball

The Piedmont College Lady Lions softball team won Regional Runner-Up in the 2011 NCAA Division III Regional Tournament in Cortland, NY.
The Lady Lions earned the chance by winning the Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) championship for the second year in a row. After a tough loss to LaGrange College early in the GSAC tournament, the top seeded Lady Lions fought back through the bracket to defeat Huntington College twice and defend their title.
The team was selected to play in the NCAA Regional at SUNY Cortland. Piedmont was the only college from the South in the tournament and ended up sending home Moravian College, King’s College, and Monteclair State.
The Lady Lions faced the host school, SUNY Cortland, in the championship game, coming up just shy of a chance at playing in the NCAA Division III World Series.
Megan Studdard, a pitcher and outfielder for the Lady Lions (front row, fourth from right), is the daughter of Stan and Phyllis Studdard of Mansfield and an upcoming sophomore at Piedmont College.
