Three Charged with Drug Possession

Kurt James Koprucu, 20, Kelvin Quintavius Whidby, 20, and Charles Justin Grier, 19, all of Monticello, have been charged with possession, manufacture and distribution of a controlled substance.

While on a routine patrol last week, a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported he noticed a vehicle traveling without any headlights or tail lights. A traffic stop was made on Funderburg Drive near the local police station and upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy detected the raw odor of marijuana. He asked to search the vehicle, and then determined he had probable cause without permission, the report said. A bag of suspected marijuana weighing more than one ounce was discovered. After no one would claim possession of the drug, all three were arrested and charged.

•On June 28 a resident on Waxwing Drive in Turtle Cove reported the theft of a Chrysler PT Cruiser.

•On June 28 a resident on Post Road in North Jasper County reported the theft of a horse trailer.

•On June 26 Fire Station Number Six in Mansfield reported the theft of a red five-gallon fuel container, a green metal five-gallon fuel container and a red plastic three-gallon boat fuel tank.

•On June 25 the Turtle Cove Clubhouse reported one of their storage rooms had been broken into.

•On June 25 the owner of an open field on Hwy. 83 North reported the theft of a cultivator from a tractor.

•On June 25 a resident on Elijah Johnson Road in South Jasper County reported the theft of a 0.22 caliber Rutger hand gun.
•On June 25 a resident on Lakeshore Drive reported the theft of approximately a dozen assorted pieces of jewelry valued at approximately $4,200.

•On June 24 a resident on Anglin Road in Mansfield reported the theft of a central heat and air unit.

•On June 24 the theft of a black Honda Accord along with the owner’s handbag and medications was reported stolen from the parking lot of a restaurant in northwest Jasper.

•On June 24 a resident on Blue Heron Drive reported the theft of a Yamaha four-wheeler along with an unspecified amount of copper and aluminum.

•On June 23 a resident on Sandpiper Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a Gama Air Conditioning Unit.

•On June 23 a resident on Hwy, 16 East reported the theft of a deep freezer and a heater.

•On June 22 Smithboro Baptist Church in east Jasper County reported the theft of two Carrier air conditioning units.

•On June 22 a resident on East Mourning Dove Drive in Turtle Cove reported their back door had been kicked in.

•On June 21 a property owner on Herds Creek Road in North Jasper County reported the theft of a Chevrolet Silverado truck, a lawn mower, a weed eater, a Poulan Chain Saw, a kerosene heater, a stainless steel sink, a deep fryer and a radiator.

•On June 21 a resident on East Mourning Dove Court in Turtle Cove reported the theft of a HP Laptop computer and a handgun.

In addition, during the period of June 21 through June the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•William Joseph Martin, Jr., 27, Mansfield—probation violation.

•Ray Banks, 53, Monticello—Jasper County Magistrate Court bench warrant.

•Timothy Shane West, 38, Monticello—possession/manufacture/distribution of a controlled substance, theft by conversion and probation violation.

•Jeremy Adam Hulsey, 30, Monticello—battery.

During this same period officers with the JCSO responded to 146 calls for service including 23 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 15 alarm, 10 road hazard, nine each accident and theft by taking, eight burglary, seven mechanical break down, six each pick up prisoner and subject needs officer, five domestic, four each assist motorist and threatening/harassing calls, three each wanted and checking location, two each speeding auto, livestock on road, intoxicated driver, escort or convoy, argument and attempt to serve warrant, one each dog disturbance, prowler report, boating accident, intoxicated pedestrian, fire/brush, fire/other, be on the look out, deliver emergency message, welfare check, four-wheeler, child custody, private property, music/noise complaint, vandalism of property persons refuse to leave, fraud/theft by deceiving, 911 hang up and identity fraud/theft.

During the period mentioned above the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:

•Rodney Maurice Digby, 45, Monticello—probation violation and criminal trespass.

•Lillian Renee Johnston, 46, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

•Travis Sentail Clemons, 31, Monticello—disorderly conduct and obstruction or hindering a law enforcement officer.

Also during this period officers with the MPD responded to 50 calls for service including 13 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five theft by taking, three alarm, two each fight, speeding auto, mechanical break down, subject needs officer, juvenile complaint, trouble unknown and road hazard, one each burglary, assist motorist, accident, road blocked, intoxicated driver, escort or convoy, fire alarm, pick up prisoner, crowd disbursement, welfare check private property, vandalism of property, persons refuse to leave and VGCSA.
