Band Gives Independence Day Concert

The Monticello Community Band presented an Independence Day Concert on Monday on the lawn of the Jasper County Historical Foundation headquarters at 319 College Street.
The band kicked off the concert with the Star Spangled Banner played by the brass quintet. Next was the whole band with a Military Escort March, then This Is My Country. Marches of the Armed Forces followed that, then a medley, Patriotic Bits and Pieces. Next was Georgia on My Mind. The last number planned was Within These Hallowed Halls, however with insistence from the crowd the band continued a little longer.
Rain threatened at the beginning of the concert, but it held off.
In addition to the musical entertainment, there was a table decoration contest. Many people arrived early and decorated their tables, with prizes awarded in three categories.
The Rinaldi family won the prize for “best theme” and received a gift certificate from Dixie’s Sport and Trophy Shop. The same family won the prize for most red, white and blue. That garnered them a prize from SonRise Gifts & Thrift Shop.
The prize for “most over the top” was awarded to the Savage family; parents Chris and Kim play in the band. Children Caroline and Kinley helped make it festive. They won a prize from the Snap n’ Turtle.
