Claud Dickinson ‘Dick’ Pope

Claud Dickinson Pope, 62, of Hillsboro, died Saturday, July.16, 2011, at Pine Point Hospice of Central Georgia in Macon.

“Dick” Pope was born in Macon on August 19, 1948. He was a lifelong resident of Monticello and was graduated from Monticello High School. He attended Middle Georgia College, after which he returned to Jasper County and worked as a farmer and a beef cattle farmer. He was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church.

Mr. Pope was predeceased by his parents, Zelma Wood Pope and James Percy Pope and by his sister, Montye Pope Kelley. He is survived by his brother Dr. James Terrell Pope of Macon and his wife, Lynn Warren Pope; also by two nephews and their families, Dr. Wood Dickinson Pope and his wife Jennifer Johnson Pope, their children, Claudia Malone Pope, Helen Carter Pope, and Wood Dickinson Pope Jr., all of Macon. Another surviving nephew is Benjamin Warren Pope and his wife, Laura Campbell Pope, their children Mary Campbell Pope, Benjamin Warren Pope Jr., and Alexander Campbell Pope, all of Atlanta.

Mr. Pope is also survived by two nieces and their families, Terri Greene Frazier and her husband, Richard, their children, Cole and Lindsey Frazier, of Gainesville, and by Renee Greene Johnson and her husband Jeffrey and their daughter Ashlynn of Franklin, Tenn. He is also survived by an aunt Catherine Wood Lindsey of Madison, and by a number of cousins. Particularly devoted to Mr. Pope during his recent illness was his cousin Kenneth Ellis Pope of Monticello, and his son Hunter.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home, 264 Hillsboro Street, Monticello. The funeral service will be on Monday, July 18, at 1:30 at Monticello Baptist Church, 334 W. Greene Street, Monticello, with Dr. Robert L. Whitmire officiating. Interment in West View Cemetery, Monticello, will follow the service.

Pallbearers are Tony Wild, Bud Greenway, Ricky Vickers, Wesley Parker, Danny Martin, Calvin Fish, Preston Wynens, Thurman Willis, Jr., and Charles Harper.
