Cases Are Settled With Pleas

Jasper Superior Court convened for a motion day Tuesday, with Judge Hulane E. George, presiding. Six individuals pled guilty to varying charges with details listed below:

Calvin D. Stone pled guilty to two counts of obstruction of an officer, interfering with 911 call and family violence—sentenced to five years with one year to serve with credit for time served since April 8, 2011, and fines and fees of $732.

Michael S. Baker pled guilty to two counts of theft by taking and criminal trespass—sentenced to 12 months to serve with credit for time served since June 15, 2011.

Ramon A. Jackson plead guilty to obstruction of an officer—sentenced to four months to serve with credit for time served since April 3, 2011.

William McNerney and Lisa McNerney both plead guilty to theft by taking— sentenced to five years to be served on probation, fines and fees of $757 and restitution of $650.

Michael Perkins Watson pled guilty to theft by receiving stolen property with details of sentencing not available at press time.
In addition, there were two probation revocation hearings with the following results:

Tony George was ordered to serve three years and eight months and six days in the state penal system after his probation was revoked. Mr. George was given credit for time served since November 13, 2007 with an end date of July 19, 2011. Mr. George was originally on probation for possession of meth with intent to distribute in July of 1999. That probation was revoked for the same charge in March of 2005.

Shannon Lackey was found to have violated his probation for absconding from probation since November 18, 2010 and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees. He was sentenced to serve 90 days in the Jasper County Jail with credit for time served in the Newton County Jail, and upon release be returned to regular probation. Mr. Lackey was on probation for charges of possession of meth, marijuana and drug related objects in March, 2009.

Three other cases or hearings were continued for varying reasons.
Also, Jasper County Magistrate Criminal Arraignment Court convened July 15, with Judge Angela M. Steele, presiding. Six cases were processed with details as follows:

Scott Lee Duckett pled not guilty to disorderly conduct and was scheduled for a bench trial on August 6, 2011.

Samantha Ford pled not guilty to abandonment of animals and neglect of animals and was scheduled for a bench trial on July 29, 2011.
Marissa Taylor pled guilty to purchase or possession of alcohol by a minor, and was sentenced to 12 months probation, 30 hours of community service and risk reduction.

Rodney M. Digby had his probation revoked and was sentenced to credit for time served, returned to probation with a review in 60 days.

Jeffery Lee Hardy, Jr. had his probation revoked and was sentenced to credit for time served and returned to probation.
Seven civil trials were also concluded and two prewarrant applications were processed.
