Middle School Lady Cougars Are Ready for 2011 Season
Piedmont Academy’s Middle School softball team will be led by six eighth graders this fall.
Coach Dan Funt’s team will open the new season Wednesday, Aug. 10 against Windsor at home beginning at 5:30 p.m. Overall, the Lady Cougars have a challenge in front of them.
“I am excited and looking forward to another great year,” Funt said. “We will face tough competition with the likes of Gatewood, Flint River, Windsor, Nat Greene, and two AAA schools in Loganville Christian and Tattnall. We started practice last week and so far they have gone well.
“We have been focusing on the fundamentals of the game, and the girls have done a great job. I am looking forward to coaching these girls and I am looking forward to a great season.”
Eighth graders Haley Tyler, Taylor Swart, Matti Smith, Bridgette Phillips, Anna Martin and Jordan Chandler will help lead the team. Seventh graders on the squad include Maddie Mooneyham, Ashley Johnston, Baylee Keesee, MaKennah Holifield and Madison Burnham.
Six graders will include Blakely Arp, Ivy English, Anne Marie Hildebrant, Lauren Mosley and O’Neil Sealy.
Funt is assisted with the team by Danny Camp, Heather Suwinski and Emily Hammock as the school’s softball coaching staff works with the entire program at all levels.
