Marijuana Found Growing in Town

The Monticello Police Department (MPD) recently discovered a plot of approximately 50 marijuana plants growing on a piece of property facing Benton Street in a cul-de-sac on Mason Street. The plants, some of which were waist high, were behind a house which has been vacant for almost a month. The plants have been confiscated, however, the MPD has made no arrests and has no suspects in the case.
There was reportedly an armed robbery at the Monticello Family Foods Wednesday morning. According to people on the scene, the store manager was attacked in the parking lot when he returned from the bank. No details were available at presstime.
Also, during the period of July 26 through August 2, the MPD reported the following arrests:

Andre Johntonio Smith, 18, Monticello—obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers.
Kenny Leon Strickland, Jr., 26, Monticello—probation violation.
Berneika Michelle Dennis, 41, Monticello—hold for warrant in Covington Police Department.
Myra Ann Prevatt, 24, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked and operation of a vehicle without current plate.
Marquis Renaldo Dowdell, 24, Covington—license violation.
Earl Ricardo Thomas, 51, Monticello—theft by receiving stolen property and driving while unlicensed.
Travid Viondi Gantt, 35, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked and child support.
During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 90 calls for service including 56 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, five alarm, three domestic, two each escort or convoy, mechanical break down, music/noise complaint, vandalism of property and fraud/theft by deceiving, one each accident, intoxicated driver, crowd disbursement, subject needs officer, juvenile complaint, possible suicide, private property, trouble unknown, property found, shoplifter, road hazard, argument, persons refuse to leave, lost property, sick and 911 hang up.
During the period of July 19 through July 31, with a noticeable absence of any activity in Turtle Cove, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) reported the following criminal activity:
•On July 31 the owner of a deer camp on Murder Creek Church Road in Mansfield reported the theft of a TV, a back door and a set of fishing waders.
•On July 30 a resident on Marben Farms Road in Mansfield reported the theft of Kawasaki four-wheeler.
•On July 28 the Jasper County Recreation Department on Ted Sauls Road reported the theft of eight boxes of assorted candies from the concession stand.
•On July 27 a church on Griggs Chapel Road in east Jasper County reported the theft of an electric mixing box, two amplifiers and two speaker stands.
•On July 26 a resident on Hwy 83 South reported the theft of a cnsiderable amount of jewelry, including a diamond cluster, two diamond pendants, a diamond anniversary ring, three gold necklaces, and a green diamond solitaire.
•On July 26 a logging yard on Smith Mill Road in south Jasper County reported the theft of a truck radiator.
•On July 23 a resident on Blue Heron Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a refrigerator and a window air conditioning unit.
•On July 19 a resident on Blue Heron Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a 1988 Mazda automobile.

Jerry Russell Caldwell, 40, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
Harvey Vernon Davis, Jr., 37, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain lane.
Michael Allen Loftis, 21, Monticello—failure to maintain lane, tail light violation, open container and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Jerry Nathan Lawley, 26, Newborn—probation violation.
Jeffery Sean Kidd, II, 19, Monticello—burglary.
Jerrod Farris, 24, Loon Trail, Monticello—possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Ronnie Eugene Goolsby, 46, Monticello—parole violation.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 125 calls for service including 30 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 10 each mechanical breakdown and subject needs officer, seven alarm, six each domestic juvenile complaint and vandalism of property, five each burglary and trouble unknown, four each assist motorist and pick up prisoner, three each theft by taking, road hazard and abandoned vehicle, two each wanted/stolen indicated, and welfare check, one each fight, dog disturbance, speeding auto, accident, livestock on road, intoxicated driver, fire alarm, fire/other, overdose, assault, discharge firearms, possible suicide, music/noise complaint, property found, checking location, argument, persons refuse to leave and attempt to serve a warrant.
