Lady Canes Start Season Winning 3 of 5 in Tourney
The Lady ‘Canes began their 2011 season on the road and in fine fashion last Friday at Spalding County, when in the first of five games they defeated Whitfield Academy 5-0, a game in which pitcher Taylor Garrett threw a one-hitter.
In the second came of the tournament Kaitlan Needham got the win in a 4-3 victory over Spalding.
In the third game of the tournament the Lady ‘Canes were triumphant in a tight game that ended with a 1-0 shutout.
Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “This was a great game by both teams. Tailor got her second win and also knocked in Needham for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs.”

The team lost the next two games, however they were both close and were to 5A powers Newton County and West Forsyth.
This past Tuesday the team traveled to Baldwin, too late to report the results in this issue.
Today, August 18 the team is scheduled to travel to Putnam for their first region game, on Monday, August 22 travel to Northeast Macon, and next Wednesday, Aug. 24 travel to Houston County High School to begin the “Brawl in the Fall” tournament.
Coach Jenkins said, “We are off to a good start and if we can find a consistent offense, then this could potentially be as good a group as we’ve had here.”
