Mary Ellen Smalling

Mary Ellen Smalling, 56, died Saturday, August 20, 2011, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.

Ms. Smalling was born October 28, 1954 in Bethesda, Md. Her parents were the late Clayton E. Smalling and June C. Smalling. Ms. Smalling moved to Monticello in 1988. She loved meeting new people and never met a stranger.

She was very artistic, loved the outdoors and was always dedicated to being of service to others. Many will remember her working at the Turtle Cove Clubhouse, Frank’s Restaurant, The Monticello News and most recently Circle K Food Store until her illness. Her daily goal at Circle K was for everyone to leave with a smile. She said that she had one “old man” left and she was working him. Heaven has gained an amazing angel…..



She is survived by two daughters, Amy Crabill, and husband, Dan, and Lara Olson, all of Monticello, and a son and his wife, Joseph and Melissa Mills of Gaithersburg, Md.; grandchildren, Clay Hardy, Tyler Stevens, and Alexandra Crabill; and sister and brothers, Peggy Billerman of Monticello, Bill Smalling of Merritt Island, Fla., and John Smalling of Eatonton.

A memorial service was held Monday, August 22, at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Rev. Ben Strength officiated. Burial will be held in Talmadge Cemetery at a later date.
