Lady Canes Are 2-0 in Region Play
The Lady Hurricane softball team is on a roll, now 2-0 in region play, and 8-2 overall.
They have scored 37 runs and only given up three in their last three games.
Not only are the Lady ‘Canes hitting the ball, but they are getting outstanding pitching from freshman Morgan Studdard and sophomore Taylor Garrett. Kaitlan Needham is also a pitcher but excels in the outfield.
In their latest action on the road this past Monday they defeated region rival Northeast Macon 13-1. Studdard got the win, her second of the year. Ke’ausha Warren and Aaliuah Barnes both hit home runs. Sam Johnson and Heather DeBoer had RBI singles.
Prior to that game they dismantled region competitor Putnam by the identical score of 13-1. Athletic Director and Head Softball Coach Chris Jenkins said, “Putnam is a team we were expecting to have to fight for a playoff spot, but we came out and played great in all aspects of the game.

“Taylor Garrett got the win on the mound and eight of the nine starters had at least one hit. And they came off a pitcher who threw the ball as well as anyone we’ve seen this year. Carlie Evans had a triple, a home run and six RBI, and Sharika Pennamon had three hits.”
The team was scheduled to travel to Houston County High School in Warner Robbins yesterday, Aug. 24, for games versus Hawkinsville and First Presbyterian Day in the first round of the Brawl-in-the-Fall tournament.
The first home game is scheduled for today, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. versus region rival Lamar County.
On Friday and Saturday they are scheduled to return to Warner Robbins and continue the Brawl-in-the-Fall tournament versus Columbus on Friday, and an undetermined foe on Saturday, depending on which bracket they fall into.
