Rose Mae Cargile Douglas

Mother Rose Mae Cargile Douglas, “Ms. Jon” died September 7, 2011 at the Gray Nursing Home.

She as born July 29, 1912 to the late Willie and Katie Lou Cargile. She attended Jasper County public schools. She was married to the late Fred Douglas.At an early age, she joined White Chapel C.M.E. Church where she served as the mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillie Pearl, Hannah and Daisy, and two brothers, Willie Cargile and Odel Cargile.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Louise Lamar of Milledgeville; a stepdaughter, Alice Mae BeBe; a sister, Mrs. Juanita C. Smith of Riverdale; a brother, Walter C. Cargile of Warner Robins; eight grandchildren, Ellis Lamar, Jr., Calvin Lamar, Rosa Lamar, Linda Lamar, Steve Lamar, Elizabeth Lamar, Gary Lama and Dariel Lamar, 23 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren, as well as a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 11, at Lakey Memorial C.M.E. Church in Hillsboro. Rev. Cindy E. Causey officiated. Burial was in South View Cemetery.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
