Man Charged with Battery of Elderly Person
An arrest warrant was re-issued for Terry Durand Brown of Monticello, charging him with battery against a person who is over 65 years old. The incident involved an 81 year old family member and was concerning money.
The maximum penalty for battery is a $1,000 fine and 12 months time, however, if the victim is over 65 years old the misdemeanor is then classified to be of a high and aggravated nature and the maximum fine of $1,000 goes up to $5,000. Also, this law applies to victims who are pregnant, a bus driver or a policeman.
Also, Myles Campbell is back in the Jasper County Jail after turning himself in on the new charge of family violence. Mr. Campbell was out on bond facing charges from earlier this year of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. As a condition of the bond he was required to wear a monitoring ankle bracelet, however, the court had approved the removal of it citing it as a financial hardship.
