‘Cane Football Player Wins Contest

Dee Chapman, a student at Jasper County High School and a member of the Monticello Hurricanes football team was this week’s winner of The Monticello News football contest.

For his efforts he collected $25 from Tim Born at Monticello Pawn Shop, last week’s prize sponsor. Dee, along with five other people, correctly guessed the winners of 13 games listed in last week’s contest.

However, Dee was the closest on the tie-breaker, and therefore scored the win. Dee guessed 62 points would be scored in the Morgan County/Lamar County contest. which Lamar won, 38-35.

The next closest finisher was Phillips Workman, who also had 13 right, but Phillips guessed 56 points would be scored. Others getting 13 right, bur further off on the tie-breaker, included David Banks, Arlene Pope, Wendy Banks, and Joanne Jordan.

Another 20 people got 12 right to also have their names added to the grand prize honor roll. One named will be drawn from the honor roll at the end of the contest for a four-ticket prize package to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.

Mr. Chapman, who plays tight end and quarterback for the ‘Canes, said he has been playing football since he was five years old. He has been playing The Monticello News football contest for five or six years.

He said it’s the first time that he has won, but that it won’t be the last.

This week another lucky prognosticator will pick up a $25 prize from State Rep. Susan Holmes of Monticello, this week’s prize sponsor. So turn to page 13, complete the form and make your tie-breaker guess. And remember, your entry must arrive at The News office, 237 West Washington Street, no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 23.
