Theft of Air Conditioning Units Continues in Jasper
According to information received from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) another outside air conditioning unit was reported stolen last Friday, Sept. 16. A resident on Pelican Circle in Turtle Cove was the victim this time.
Thieves steal the units to salvage the copper in them, as well as just for the metal itself due to the high value per pound of scrap metal, especially copper.
Other incidents of criminal activity reported by the JCSO for the period of September 15 through 18 are as follows:

•On September 18 a resident on Post Road in Shady Dale reported the theft of a Road Master 24″ 10 speed bicycle.
•On September 16 a resident on Williams Road in North Jasper County reported the theft of household goods.
•On September 16 a resident on Lake Shore Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a GMC four-door truck.
•On September 15 the owner of a storage shed on Holman Road in west Jasper County reported the theft of a rigid mitre box, dry wall benches and a Porter Cable power sander.
•On September 15 a traffic stop was made on Hwy. 212 West by the JCSO after observing questionable materials in a vehicle (scrap metal). The vehicle was escorted to the Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
Also during the period of September 13 through 20 the JCSO reported the following arrests:
•Lesley Trisha Bryant, 37, Monticello—simple battery.
•Marcus Eugene Bryant, 42, Monticello—interference with 911 call.
•Crystal Gayle Tumlin, 31, Covington—bench warrant.
•Billy Gene Watson, 25, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
•Lisa Darlene Biddy, 36, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
•David Blake Williams, 19, Griffin—driving while license suspended or revoked, no valid insurance and operation of vehicle without current plate.
•Marcus Mandrell Campbell, 30, Monticello—bond revoked.
•Billy Earl Nicholson, Jr., 40, Covington—theft by taking.
•Tony Steven Wallace, Jr., 21, Mansfield—probation violation.
•Frank Lackey, 54, Monticello—disorderly conduct and obstruction or hindering law enforcement officer.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 145 calls for service including 34 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 10 subject needs officer, nine accident, seven assist motorist, six alarm, five each threatening/harassing calls and argument, four each burglary and trouble unknown, three each dog disturbance, escort or convoy, mechanical break down, theft by taking, music/noise complaint, vandalism of property and road hazard, two each attempt to serve warrant, 911 hang up, domestic, courtesy ride, fire/structure, pick up prisoner, wanted/stolen indicated, welfare check, four wheeler and juvenile complaint, one each abandoned vehicle, fraud/theft by deceiving, fight, prowler report, speeding auto, live stock on road, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, direct traffic, fire/unknown, fire/vehicle, child abuse/molestation, deliver emergency message, missing person, extra patrol, discharge firearms, dead on arrival, stabbing, private property and checking location.
Also during this period, the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:
•Oscar Carl Thomas, 63, Monticello—bench warrant.
•Robert Shannon Wyatt, 29, Newborn—hold for warrant in Gwinnett County.
During this period officers with the MPD responded to 69 calls for service including 21 each stopping suspicious person/vehicle and escort or convoy, four subject needs officer, three attempt to serve warrant, two each alarm and juvenile complaint, one each fight, domestic, accident, mechanical break down, fire alarm, fire/structure, fire/unknown, theft by taking, pick up prisoner, stabbing, trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, VGCSA, sick and 911 hang up.
