‘Canes to Face Pike County Friday
By STONE WORKMAN
An off week gives the Hurricanes time to heal from the three battles of the season that have left the team battered but still in the hunt for a playoff position.
After the thrilling upset of Monroe Area, the ’Canes dropped the next two games to very strong opponents and are now 0-1 in region play. I asked Coach Roberts to give a synopsis of the season by answering the following questions:

1. What has been a pleasant surprise for you over the first three games?
We had some injuries to key players, but other players have filled in without hesitation. I have also been pleasantly surprised how well several of the players are doing playing multiple positions.
2. What areas need the most improvement?
We need to get better in all phases of the game, but especially we need to get better on offense. I also think we need to learn how to respond to adversity and our leadership needs to improve.
3. What have been some “turning points” in our games?
The turning point in our win against Monroe was when Quincy Standifer blocked Monroe’s extra point attempt. In our losses, I think bad special teams play resulted in poor field position early in both games. Turnovers also played a role in both games.
4. What do you look for against Pike?
Pike County is big and physical. They are playing with a lot of confidence.
