Piedmont Middle School Cougars Win Again

CLAY KIRKPATRICK BREAKS UP PASS

The Piedmont Academy Middle School football team passed a big test last week with a 40-16 victory against visiting John Milledge Academy.

“We played well,” said coach Josh Daher. “They blitzed a lot and we did a good job of picking it up. They had a very talented running back that we held to very little yardage.”

The Cougars were in charge 34-0 by halftime. Cameron Hammock and Ethan Davidson both scored two touchdowns while Mack Brady added one.

Davidson returned the second half kickoff for a score resulting in more points.

“It’s been a long time since Piedmont defeated John Milledge in Middle School football,” Daher said. “That makes the victory feel good. We have several kids playing great right now. Our defense is playing awesome.”

Michael Edwards and Tyler Mills are both playing well at defensive end, Daher said. In addition, Ben Davis is playing well at cornerback.

“Ben has done a great job of coming up and making plays,” the coach said.

Piedmont travels to Gatewood this week for a 6 p.m. contest Thursday (today).

“They are another talented team,” Daher said. “When Piedmont and Gatewood meet, you throw records and stats out the window. It’s a rival game where anything can happen. Both teams are going to be up for this one.

“It’s another week where we have to control the ball, play discipline and keep our composure. We’ve made a great effort so far this year. We have to just keep it up We can’t have anyone freak out when this game starts. We’ve got to keep our composure We’ve come too far.”

The Middle School Cougars are currently on a 9-game winning streak.
