Drucilla B. Mathis
Mrs. Drucilla B. Mathis, 64, of Eatonton, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Mrs. Mathis was born March 7, 1947 in Monticello, to the late Willie Joe Bland and Mamie B. Ross.
She was a loving, devoted wife and mother, always putting her family first. Her kindness extended throughout the community, where she enjoyed giving and helping others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Ginnie Mae McSwain, Rosetta Chatman, Eddie J. Bland and Temp Bland.
Mrs. Mathis was employed at Putnam General Hospital for 28 years. Her dedication and personal commitment created a loving bond with her co-workers. They were her second family “whom she loved dearly.”
Survivors include her husband of 48 years Lane Mathis, Jr.; two daughters, Mamie Bland and Elaine Nelson; three sons, Timmy Bland, Cedric Mathis, Sr. and Jermaine Mathis; three sisters, Mattie L. Gomez, Clydie Bland and Annette Ross; two brothers, Anthony Ross and Johnny Bland; 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held October 11, 2011 from Saint John A.M.E. Church in Eatonton. Rev. Gregory Ellison, pastor of Greater Bell’s Chapel, officiated.
