Deputy Arrests Suspect After Receiving Call

After receiving a call concerning suspicious persons at an unoccupied home in Newborn late last week, a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) arrived on the scene at Edwards Way and arrested Vincent Kyle Dudley, 20, of Newborn, and charged him with theft by taking.

Mr. Dudley had been authorized to remove specific items from the house by the owner at an earlier date, but in this case, the owner of the house confirmed these items did not include a refrigerator and a stove which Mr. Dudley said he intended to sell for scrap metal.

Also, during the period of October 11-18, the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Javoris Devante Bridges, 22, Monticello—probation violation.

•Ashlee Rene Harris, 23, Monticello—deposit account fraud.

•Bonnie Elaine Spearman, 59, Temple—abandoned dogs.

•Steven Paul Smith, 54, Monticello—simple battery.

•William Dewayne Standifer, 38, Monticello—simple assault.

•Mathew Bryan Jackson, 28, Monticello—probation violation, simple battery and disorderly conduct.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 102 calls for service including 17 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, eight subject needs officer, seven each alarm, assist motorist and pickup prisoner, six trouble unknown, five mechanical break down, four each accident and juvenile complaint, and three attempt to serve warrant.

Also, two each dog disturbance, domestic, speeding auto, overdose, discharge firearms, music/noise complaint, threatening/harassing calls, vandalism or property, persons refuse to leave and abandoned vehicle, one each burglary, courtesy ride, livestock on road escort or convoy, theft by taking, wanted/stolen indicated, repossession of vehicle, assault, welfare check, child custody case, shooting, road hazard, trespassing and 911 hang up.

Also during this period, the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:

•Nicholas Dontavious Ross, 25, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked.

•Thomas David Smith, 60, Mansfield—disorderly conduct.

•Dwight Benard Buckner, 44, Monticello—obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers and open container.

During this period officers with the MPD responded to 74 calls for service including 25 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 18 escort or convoy, five subject needs officer, and two each accident, mechanical break down, juvenile complaint, trouble unknown and music/noise complaint.

Also, one each burglary, domestic, assist motorist, intoxicated pedestrian, theft by taking, assault, extra patrol, threatening/harassing calls, checking location, trespassing stroke, attempt to serve warrant, argument and drinking in public.

In addition, during this period the Georgia State Patrol reported the arrest of Tyler Brett Landress, 20, of Shady Dale, who was charged with serious injury by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain lane and seat belt violation.

Residents are reminded to be alert to activities at their homes and in their neighborhoods. Oftentimes, neighbors are the ones that realize something is awry and can be beneficial in catching criminals or would-be criminals.
