Mrs. Mary M. Walker
Mary M. Walker died Thursday, Nov. 3. She was born March 30, 1925 to the late Gus Benton and the late Eula Mae Stone-Benton of Jasper County.
Ms. Walker accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church until her death.
Ms. Walker enjoyed cooking and baking as well as spending time with family and friends.
Otis Benton and Johnny Benton, brothers, preceded her in death, along with one grandchild Jacquline Weems, and a great-grandchild, Doninique Weems.
Survivors include seven children, Charlie T. Walker, Lucy Booker, Willie Mae Smith, Betty L. Brown, Ethel Greene, and Ralph Brown, Jr., all of Decatur; Georgia and Charles Walker of Detroit MI., a brother, Hulon Benton of Atlanta, and three sisters Julia Bell Goolsby of Monticello, Willie Ruth Williams of Atlanta, and Addie Lue Smith of Decatur.
Also, two adopted children Annie Harris and Bob Jackson, both of Atlanta. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A service is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 at noon at Springfield Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Jimmy Horton, pastor. Rev. Joe McKibben, eulogist.
Interment will be held in the cemetery of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
