Sign-Up for Recreation Basketball Now

The Jasper County Recreation Department has announced youth basketball registration.

The cost is $45 and children ages 7 through 15 as of December 5 may register.

Practice will begin Monday, Dec. 5 at Washington Park Elementary School, Highway 212E.

Sign-ups began Nov. 7 and continue through Nov. 21. Parents are able to sign children up either at the Recreation Center at 246 Ted Sauls Road, Monticello, or at the Jasper County Courthouse in the downstairs Finance Office.

Call the Recreation Center before coming at 706-468-4916 to make sure someone is the office.

The Finance Office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Any sign-ups after November 21 will be $60, the $45 plus a $15 late fee, to cover the costs of special ordering the game jersey.

“The rumors that the basketball program was canceled are obviously untrue,” said Wes Chester, Recreation Director.

“It is true that it has taken some figuring and re-figuring to come up with a registration fee that is logical. Basically we cut as many costs as possible; calculated the total cost and worked backwards to see how we could pay for the program with a reasonable registration.

The number we came up with was $65 per child, but a fund raiser reduced the cost. The counties around us are charging more than twice Jasper’s.”
