Student Athletes Are Awarded for Fall Sports

Athletes at Jasper County High School were recognized and honored last week at the annual sports awards program for fall sports. Numerous athletes were honored for earning a varsity “letter” in their respective sports—football, softball, football cheerleading, competition cheerleading and cross country.
For varsity football cheerleading, Morgan Few earned the most improved award; Emily Axman earned the most spirited award; and Megan Eidson earned the coach’s award.
Awards for competition cheerleading were presented to Courtney Smith, most improved; Ami Labriola, Hurricane award and the academic award; and Mackenzie Mote-Patterson, coach’s award.
Heather DeBoer earned the Pride of the Hurricanes award for varsity softball, while Sharika Pennamon received the coach’s award.
Allison Scroggs earned the academic award; Aaliyah Barnes earned the most improved award; and Carlie Evans received the leadership award.

For the cross country team, Quinton Standifer and Emmie Wade earned the academic awards, and Kelsey Clemons and Jordan Weaver had the best time for girls and boys cross country, respectively.
For varsity football, Austin Pierce earned the most improved award while Quincy Standifer earned the coach’s award. Chris Thomas and Alvarez Thomas were named best offensive and defensive players, respectively. Billy Edwards was named special team player of the year. Brandon Barger earned the Golden Helmet award and Alvarez Thomas was named most valuable player.
Seniors who are not continuing with another sport this year who received their senior plaques were Aubrie Wages, two years varsity cheerleading; Greg Stewart, one year varsity basketball and three years varsity football; Brittany Shumway, one year competition cheerleading; Jamie Watson, one year varsity softball; Morgan Mote-Patterson, four years competition cheerleading; Skyler Blankenship, two years varsity football; and Jamie Arnold, three years competition cheerleading.
The coaches for each of the sports praised the student athletes for their efforts in their sports and in the classroom. Head softball coach and athletic director Chris Jenkins recognized tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade athletes as being scholar athletes which means that they have earned and maintained a minimum 3.5 grade point average throughout their respective sports.
Scholar athletes were Aaliyah Barnes, Heather DeBoer, Ke’Ausha Warren, Kaitlan Needham, Allison Scroggs, Victor Bautista, Justin Bradley, Chase Caron, Matthew Chupp, Emery Cline, Jordan Weaver, Kelsey Clemons, Maggie O’Kelley, Ami Labriola, Morgan Mote-Patterson, Brittany Pittman, Brady McMichael, A.J. Thomas, Juvenal Bermudez, and Brandon Barger.
