Cougars Win Openers

The Piedmont Academy basketball teams ventured to Flint River Tuesday as they opened the 2011-2012 season.

Coach Josh Daher’s Cougars earned a 33-27 win despite very limited preparation time. Bobby Mitchell scored 19 points to lead Piedmont (1-0). Davis Kimball added six points while Justin Wilson scored four. Jakey Dunagan and Hank Strickland both finished with two points.

The Piedmont Lady Cougars battled Tuesday before falling 51-50 in overtime.

Hailey Burnham was the team’s leading scorer with 17 points followed by Lanie King 13. Heather Tyler scored 12 while Savannah McGinnis finished with four and Lucy Strickland added three. Anna Jones made a free throw in the overtime period.
