Court Clerk Will Seek Re-Election

DAN JORDAN

Dan Jordan, Jasper County Clerk of Courts, announced this week that he is seeking another term of office.

“As each year passes, the clerk’s office faces more and more challenges due to national, state and local mandates. I enjoy each of these challenges and am proud that my office has met and surpassed the requirements of our ever expanding duties,” said Mr. Jordan.

One new duty is administration of the Board of Equalization. The BOE is the body in which taxpayers may seek an unbiased hearing if they believe that their property tax assessment is too high. While the BOE has come under the budget of the clerk’s office for several years, a law implemented last year provides that the Clerk of Courts shall serve all oversight and administrative functions of the Board of Equalization.

“The law also provides that the clerk’s office be provided a part time employee to assist in handling these duties,” said Mr. Jordan. “So far, however, we have been able to perform this function with existing staff. This saves money for Jasper County.”

Mr. Jordan stated that during his current term of office he has held the Clerk of Courts budget down to the bare minimum. “My challenge is to cut costs while maintaining the quality of service and the efficiency that the public has come to expect. The economic downturn has not affected the volume of court business. Our fine and fee revenues have increased during the past four years,” said Mr. Jordan.

“While additional duties and budget challenges have been important during my current term of office, I believe that the teamwork that has existed among the judges and constitutional officers is even more important,” stated Mr. Jordan.

“In an age where political discourse and infighting seems the norm, your Chief Magistrate, Probate Judge, Sheriff, Tax Commissioner and Clerk of Courts and their staff members have worked very well together in an effort to serve the citizens of Jasper County. I will do my best to make sure that this cooperation continues if I am elected to another term of office”.

Mr. Jordan said that “It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Jasper County. I will work to ensure that Jasper County has a court system that is strong, well qualified and independent. I would appreciate your votes and support as I seek election to another term of office”.

Dan Jordan was born at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Monticello, is a graduate of Jasper County High School and has a bachelor’s degree from Georgia College and State University. He lives in rural Jasper County.
