HOME LOST

The home of Betty and William Jordan on Sandpiper Drive in Rollingwood Cove was destroyed by fire New Year’s Day after a fire broke out, apparently caused by electrical wiring.
The Jordans were leasing the home from Bruce Whitley, who owns several properties in the area. A Ford Explorer that was parked close to the home was also seriously damaged. An adjacent single-wide also had some damage, and narrowly missed catching fire. The home was pretty much gone when firefighters arrived, in spite of an arrival just six minutes after being dispatched.
Some 21 firefighters and seven apparatus responded to the home fire. Damage was estimated in excess of $10,000.
On Monday, firefighters were paged to a bark pile on fire at Oldcastle Lawn & Garden in Shady Dale.
Fourteen people and eight apparatus were used to extinguish that fire which took considerable time.
