Man Faces Multiple Charges in Arrest

Adam Lee Phillips, 18, of Mansfield, was arrested last week by a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) on outstanding warrants for charges including fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, driving while license suspended or revoked, reckless driving, no horn or warning devises, brake light or signal devise violation and registration violation.

The warrants and subsequent arrest came after numerous complaints from residents on Rocky Creek Road concerning a four-wheeler, or all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Since his arrest Mr. Phillips has been transferred to Gil-mer County for outstanding charges there.

Also, last Friday, January 6, an autistic man went missing, and after a 24 hour search by the JCSO he was found well and uninjured Saturday afternoon just inside the Morgan County line near where he lived in Jasper County.

During the period of January 3 through 10 no criminal activity was reported by the JCSO, however, the following arrests were reported:

•Darryl Mark Hopper, Jr., 25, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain lane.

•Shannon Jarrod Hyman, 27, Monticello—probation violation.

•David Ray Hulsey, Jr., 37, Monticello—child support.

•Candy Yvonne Cleveland, 41, Monticello—disorderly conduct.

•Brandon Lanorris Thomas, 22, Hillsboro—probation violation.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 111 calls for service including 33 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, eight subject needs officer, seven accident, six attempt to serve warrant, five trouble unknown, four each assist motorist, mechanical break down and music/noise complaint, three juvenile complaint, two each alarm, livestock on road, pick up prisoner and identity fraud/theft.

Also, one each fight, prowler report, speeding auto, courtesy ride, intoxicated driver, intoxicated pedestrian, direct traffic, chase in progress, wanted/stolen indicated, unconscious, fall, assault, missing person, extra patrol, welfare check, child custody case, discharge of firearms, entering auto, possible suicide, private property, property found, checking location, road hazare, argument, persons refuse to leave, sick and seizure.

Also, during this same period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the arrest of Thomas Davis Smith, 61, of Mansfield and charged him with public drunkenness.

During this aforementioned period officers with the MPD responded to 65 calls for service including 15 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 12 escort or convoy, four subject needs officer, three each domestic and music/noise complaint, two each alarm, theft by taking, fall, assist invalid and vandalism of property, one each dog disturbance, speeding auto, intoxicated pedestrian, mechanical break down, chase in progress, fire, crowd disbursement, welfare check, juvenile complaint, private property, trouble unknown, threatening/harassing calls, seizure, abandoned vehicle and persons refuse to leave.
