Irish Travlers Denied Retrial
Two of the so-called Irish Travelers, Bryan Garrard Gorman and Bryan Jude Gorman, were back in Jasper Superior Court Tuesday with Judge James L. Cline. Jr., presiding, seeking a new trial on the grounds of the state’s failure to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, that the evidence was sufficiently close to warrant the trial judge to exercise her discretion to grant the defendants a retrial and that the court committed errors of law before, during and after the trial and in sentencing.
Judge Cline ruled against them and the motion for a new trial was denied.
The defendants also had a motion to vacate an unlawful sentence. The two Gorman’s were convicted of burglary and giving false information by a Jasper County Jury back in May of 2011 and were sentenced to eight years on the burglary charge and four years on the false information charge, to run concurrent.
