Gladys Reid Benton Frazier
Gladys Reid Benton Frazier, 97, died at her home in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012. She was a native of Jasper County.
Mrs. Frazier attended school in Shady Dale. She and her husband, Wilburn Benton, moved from their native home in Monticello to the Orlando area in 1960 to be near their daughter and first grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Harold Frazier in 2006.
She loved people, had many friends and while in good health enjoyed attending church at Faith Baptist Church of Orlando.
Mrs. Frazier enjoyed a number of careers during her employment years. She worked at the Monticello Hardware Company in her home town of Monticello for a long period of time before moving to Orlando.
She was bookkeeper at the family owned business of Armstrong Lock and Key Inc. in Orlando, was manager of the fabrics department of JC Penney Company in Winter Park Mall; and retired from her job after many years of dedicated service while employed in Orange County’s Tax Appraiser/Assessor’s Office.
Mrs. Frazier loved flowers and was an avid gardener, having a beautiful and lush vegetable garden in her back yard each year. She was a true lover of nature.
A service was held January 24 at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, Orlando, Fla., followed by graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Frazier is survived by two daughters, Anne Armstrong-Austin of Apopka., Fla. and Lauri L. Benton of Phoenix, AZ.; grandsons Kevin Armstrong, of Deland, Fla., Christopher Armstrong and Scott Austin of Orlando, Fla. and Jesse Huffman of Phoenix, AZ.; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
