Absentee Ballots Are Available
Absentee ballots are now available in the registrar’s office for voting by mail in the March 6 presidential preference primary. Voters can request an absentee ballot through Friday, March 2, 2012.
The registrar’s office is located on the ground floor of the Jasper County Courthouse.
Georgia residents must return their absentee ballot to their county election office by close of polls on election day. Absentee ballots cast by overseas and military voters must be postmarked on or before March 6, but will be accepted until the end of business on March 9.
Voters are not required to provide a reason when requesting an absentee ballot.

Voters can also obtain an absentee ballot request form from the Secretary of State’s website, sos.ga.gov. The form must be completed and returned to the voter’s county election office. County election office personnel can also provide absentee ballot request forms.
Citizens who are eligible to vote but have not registered may register through Monday, Feb. 6. Voter registration forms are available on the Secretary of State’s website and in the registrar’s office.
In-person advance voting for the 2012 presidential preference primary will begin Monday, Feb. 13, and be available each weekday through March from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also, Jasper County voters may vote in advance in person on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Jasper County and other Georgia voters will return to the polls several times this year. County commissioners and other county elected officials will be chosen this year, as will a president.
The Jasper County School Board is likely to ask voters to approve a general obligation bond for capital improvements. Jasper County taxpayers have been paying on a bond issue for a number of years which has expired, and the new bond would cost taxpayers the same amount and provide needed renovations and repairs to the schools.
The general primary and non-partisan elections will be held July 31. The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6. Runoffs are possible after each of those.
