Mary Florence Reid Wood
Mary Florence Reid Wood, 85, of Wayside, died Friday, January 27, 2012, at Lynn Haven Nursing Home in Wayside.
Ms. Wood was born in West Palm Beach, FL, to the late Irvin Columbus Reid and Ethel Hammock Reid. She was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church. Before retirement, she was a nurses’ aide for Middle Georgia Hospital in Macon.
Ms. Wood led a life of making others laugh as she played the parts of clowns and Dolly Parton at nursing homes and senior facilities. She loved her volunteer work at McAfee Towers in Macon and received numerous awards from the Macon Housing Authority.
Most of all she loved playing the part of the Macon Cherry Blossom; Ms. Blossom as she was known for many years.
She is preceded in death by her former husband, William Hasty Wood; two sons, Frank Donald Wood, and Wallace Reid Wood; brother, Wallace Reid; and sister, Frances Pitts.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Rhonda Wood of Shelby, NC; daughters and son-in-law, Penny Wood of Milledgeville, and Karen and Hank Bilbrey of Wayside; grandchildren, Kimberly Miller, Summer Bilbrey, Shana Price, Dustin Wood, Reid Wood, and Herb Wood; great-grandchildren, Alexis Miller, Trinity Miller, James Miller, Aubrey Wood, and Savannah Wood.
Funeral services were held January 30, at Wayside Presbyterian Church in Wayside, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Don Hendrix officiated.
Pallbearers were Dustin Wood, Herb Wood, Reid Wood, and Jay Miller.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1467 Old Hwy 11, Gray, GA 31032.
