M. Campbell Pleads Guilty to Felony Obstruction
Marcus M. Campbell of Monticello pled guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of an officer and one count of simple battery on January 24 in Jasper County Superior Court with Judge William A. Prior, Jr., presiding.
Mr. Campbell was sentenced to five years on the obstruction charges and 12 months on the simple battery charge, with 240-365 days to serve in a state detention center. The remainder of the sentence could then be served on probation provided Mr. Campbell complies with conditions, which include the payment of $1,382 in fines and fees.
Mr. Campbell also pled guilty to a charge of battery/ family violence in a separate case and was sentenced to four months for this misdemeanor charge, to be served concurrent with the other sentence.

In a probation revocation hearing the court found sufficient evidence that Jerome Stokes had violated his probation via the new charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and driving while license suspended. Mr. Stokes was sentenced to serve the balance of his probation in the state penal system with a release date of March 28, 2016.
In another probation revocation hearing the court found sufficient evidence that Jay Cheek had violated his probation with the new felony offense of battery and failure to pay court ordered fines and fees. Mr. Cheek was sentenced to serve the balance of his probated sentence in the Jasper County jail with an end date of February 5, 2012, to be suspended upon full payment of $2,146.
Nine other probation revocation hearings were continued.
Also, a motion to suppress evidence was denied in the case of Benjamin B. Marshall, who is charged with operation of watercraft under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to obey regulatory markers.
Magistrate Court
Also, the Jasper County Magistrate Court convened for for criminal ordinance violation hearings on January 20, with Judge Kenneth G. Jackson, presiding, and four cases were processed as follows:
•Melissa Mechelle Lisvey had her probation revoked and was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
•Lori Cowan was issued a warning on the charge of animals running at large.
•Danny Ray Grindle pled guilty to possession of marijuana less than one ounce and was sentenced to 12 months probation, 10 days in jail, 30 hours community service and a fine of $695.
•Jessie James Griggs pled guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to 12 months probation, 30 hours community service and a fine of $210.
