Alan Cox to Seek Re-Election

ALAN COX

District 5 Jasper County Commissioner Alan Cox will run for a second term in 2012, he announced this week.

Commissioner Cox has served District 5 since 2008 and is a Certified Commissioner by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia, and is presently serving as Commission Chairman. He attended Georgia Perimeter College and John Marshall Law University.

Having worked in management and ownership positions for 40 years, Commissioner Cox brings valuable business experience to the Board of Commissioners, he said.

“Jasper County and what we leave for our children is very important to me. We are fortunate enough to live in an area full of wildlife, farms, lakes, and streams and we need to protect and pass this on to our families.

“While running for election in 2007, I said that the county needed to be and could be run like a business. Some of my opponents told me I did not understand that government was different and it couldn’t be done. It was done…we cut our expenses by 20 percent while maintaining basically the same level of services.

“We did not have massive layoffs like some counties. We retained our valuable and experienced employees. Jasper County has weathered the economic downturn and is financially strong and is not in debt. We were able to pave several roads including County Line Road and Hodges Farm Road both in District 5.

“Recreation, Animal Control, and Public Works have been greatly improved and the cost of operating our curbside garbage pick-up was taken out of the red, a savings of approximately $200,000 per year for curbside garbage pick-up alone.

“It was because of the support of those who believed we could. We made the difficult changes and decisions because people like you believed me when I said we could have change. I appreciate the concern and advice of those I serve and I hope you will continue to do so. We still have things to do…that is why I am seeking re-election.

“Don’t overlook for a minute all the good that you have accomplished. Remember the legacy you can leave to your children. Thank you and God bless you all for the opportunity to represent you for last four years. I look forward to representing you again for a bright and prosperous future.

“I said we could have change and we have had change. I am running on my record, not empty promises, if you want me to represent you on the Board of Commissioners for the 2013-2016 term, I am ready, willing, and able.”
