Trials Are Scheduled in Superior Court

One of possibly four trials scheduled for this week in Jasper Superior Court got under way Monday, with Judge Hugh V. Wingfield, III, presiding.

A jury was picked and the trial of Shienke Kimbro, charged with criminal damage to property in the second degree, got under way Tuesday, but was not concluded in time to report in this edition.

As of press time, three other cases were also scheduled for trial.

Joseph D. Davis is charged with fleeing/attempting to elude an officer, speeding over 100 mph, failure to stop for stop sign, driving while license suspended and removing/ affixing license plate with intent to conceal. Kandy Annette Fite and Mary Ann Cleveland are both charged with sale of a schedule III, IV or V controlled substance.

Also, 20 individuals pled guilty with charges and sentences indicated below:

•Angel R. Hernandez to misdemeanor homicide by vehicle in the second degree—sentenced to six months on probation and fines and fees of $544.

•Jessie James Griggs to aggravated assault—sentenced to five years on probation, ordered to complete mental health counseling and to perform any recommended treatment, take all prescribed medications, no contact with victim and fees of $132.

•Jessie Gude to burglary—sentenced to five years with one year to serve, restitution of $1,244 and fees of $137.

•Marlon A. Thomas to driving under the influence and possession of marijuana—sentenced to 12 months probation with 72 hours to serve, ordered to complete DUI Risk Reduction Program, complete clinical evaluation and any recommended treatment and $1,485 in fines and fees.

•Tera West Kirby to deposit account fraud—sentenced to one year on probation, restitution of $569 and fees of $82.

•David Jason Green to possession of oxycodone, giving false name and driving under the influence—sentenced to five years probation with 24 hours serve with credit for time served, ordered to complete DUI Risk Reduction Program and fines and fees of $2,048.

•David A. Nash, Jr., to possession of methamphetamine and theft by taking—sentenced to five years on probation and fines and fees of $1,429.

•Danny Ray Tumlin to theft by taking—sentenced to three years on probation, restitution of $650 and fines and fees of $757.

•John E. Bryans, Jr. to theft by taking—sentenced to 12 months probation and fines and fees of $624.

•Charles J. Grier to possession of marijuana—sentenced to 12 months probation and fines and fees of $1,24.

•Michael Loftis to driving under the influence—sentenced to 12 months probation with 72 hours to serve with credit for time served, 30 days community service, complete DUI alcohol or drug use Risk Reduction Program, clinical evaluation and fines and fees of $1,575.

•Cal S. Durham to criminal trespass—sentenced to 12 months on probation, ordered to stay away from victim and fines and fees of $594.

•David Hardwick to simple battery and obstruction of an officer—sentenced to six months in the Jasper County Jail with credit for time served since November 12, 2011.

•Keith P. Durham to criminal trespass—sentenced to 12 months probation and $594.

•Rogelio Cruz, Sr., to battery and cruelty to children in the third degree—sentenced to two years probation with 12 months to serve in the Jasper County Jail with credit for time served since August 16, 2011, probation to be suspended upon deportation, no contact with victims and fines and fees of $544.

•Rodney Digby to criminal trespass—sentenced to 12 months probation, restitution of $200, no contact with victim and fines and fees of $594.

•Travis Clemons to obstruction of an officer—sentenced to 12 months on probation to be reduced to six months upon payment of fines and fees of $344.

•Juan A. Yournet to fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and speeding—sentenced to 12 months probation and fines and fees of $544.

•Kenneth A. Thurman to battery/family violence—sentenced to 12 months probation, to complete Family Violence Intervention Program, no contact with victims and fines and fees of $594.

•Anthony E. Parker to battery/family violence—sentenced to five years on probation with one year to serve, to complete Family Violence Intervention Program, no contact with victim and fines and fees of $1,382.

Also, bench warrants were issued for the arrest of Brandon Lanorris Thomas and Mary Jo Pope for failure to appear, and 37 other cases were continued.
