Lady Cougars Fall to Terrell to End Season

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars made a run to the state quarterfinals before falling to Terrell last Friday.

Piedmont defeated Flint River 27-24 in an opening-round game played at Middle Georgia College in Cochran. The Lady Cougars used an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to help earn the win. Hailey Burnham paced the team with 10 points while Lanie King and Lucy Strickland both scored six.

Trailing 17-15 at halftime against Flint River, Piedmont was behind five points after the third quarter. A strong fourth quarter, however, helped propel coach Wes Tanner’s team to victory.

Anna Jones finished with three points while Kacy Swart added two.

The Lady Cougars returned to Middle Georgia Friday for a match-up with Terrell, the defending state champion. The Lady Eagles proved too strong for Piedmont and recorded a 54-16 win. Burnham led the Lady Cougars with six points while King scored four. Heather Tyler, Beth Anne Mahaffey and Jones each scored two.

Terrell took control of the game early, leading 11-2 after the first quarter and 27-8 by halftime.
