Presidential Preference Primary Is Next Tuesday
Tomorrow, March 2, is the last day for early voting in the Jasper County Courthouse, and all persons wanting to have their voice heard in Georgia’s Presidential Preference Primary next Tuesday, March 6, can vote then if they have not early voted by tomorrow.
Candidates can choose a Democratic ballot which will only bear the name of one candidate—Barack Obama.
Likewise, voters can choose a Republican ballot and help select the Republican nominee to face President Obama.
The Republican contenders are Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, Other names that will appear on the Republican ballot, according to the Secretary of State’s website, are Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson, Rick Perry, and Buddy Roemer, even though some of them have already dropped out of the race and others were never serious contenders.

Voters are reminded they must be able to show appropriate identification to be able to vote. Items that can be used include any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free Voter ID Card issued by the county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), a Georgia Driver’s License, even if expired, valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, or entity of the U.S. government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, or authority of this state, valid U.S. passport, U.S. military photo ID, or tribal photo ID.
Persons also must be registered to vote.
Sixteen people took advantage of the opportunity for Saturday voting last Saturday, said Chief Registrar Carole Norris.
For questions about voter registration status, change of address, etc., interested persons can see Mrs. Norris on the ground floor of the Courthouse where voting takes place or call the office at 706-468-4908.
Questions on election day should generally be directed to Probate Judge Linda Mock-Keller who serves as elections superintendent.
